About John

John has been making music and singing for most of his life - oboe, guitar and choirs as a teenager, leading to him singing folksongs in the mid 1970's at The Forum Folk Club in East Kilbride.

He was a member of "The Skelpit Lug" ceilidh band prior to joining "Talisker", playing to folk clubs around Scotland, including Crail, Stirling, Falkirk and Dunfermline. Talisker supported the Poozies at The Doune and Dunblane Fling in 1995.

Later in the 90's, John and Nick Hanley formed "The Sourmash Blues Band".

John has won TMSA competitions for unaccompanied traditional singing at Killin and Penicuik. In addition to working as a solo performer, he also works with Sandy Marshall and in the trio Tarneybackle.

John performs at festivals, in hotels and bars, and care homes.  He regularly performs for Music in Hospitals Scotland  in care homes and hospitals across Scotland.  Find out more at http://www.musicinhospitalsscotland.org.uk/
